When Filled The Special Education Behavior Support Paraprofessional is a vital member of the educational team, providing essential support to students with special needs within a general educatioinn and special education setting.
The primary responsibility of this role is to assist in the implementation of behavior management plans, promote positive behavioral development, and create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students.
Key
Responsibilities:
Behavior Management Support:
Collaborate with the special education team to implement individualized behavior management plans and strategies for students with special needs.
Provide one-on-one or small group support to students to reinforce positive behaviors, redirect challenging behaviors, and promote self-regulation.
Student Assistance:
Offer academic and behavioral assistance to students with special needs in various classroom settings, including general education classrooms, resource rooms, or specialized programs.
Provide support during instruction, assignments, assessments, and transitions to maximize student engagement and success.
Data Collection and Reporting:
Collect data on student behaviors and progress to monitor the effectiveness of behavior interventions and interventions.
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports to document student performance, behavior patterns, and outcomes.
Communicate findings to the special education team and contribute to the development of individualized educational plans (IEPs).
Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other educational professionals to implement coordinated strategies and interventions.
Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress, concerns, and adjustments to behavior plans.
Contribute insights and observations to help develop effective instructional strategies and individualized supports.
Classroom Support:
Assist in maintaining a positive and structured learning environment conducive to the academic and social-emotional growth of students.
Support classroom management efforts by reinforcing routines, modeling appropriate behavior, and promoting a safe and inclusive atmosphere.
Assist with adapting materials, equipment, and activities to accommodate diverse learning needs.
Communication and Relationship Building:
Establish open and effective communication channels with students, their families, and the wider school community.
Collaborate with parents/guardians to reinforce behavior management strategies and provide progress updates.
Foster positive relationships with students, earning their trust and facilitating their emotional well-being.
Professional Development:
Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education, behavior management techniques, and best practices.
Stay informed about current trends, research, and legislation related to special education and behavior support.
JOB GOAL:
To provide direct supportive services to emotionally disturbed special education students who have severe behavior concerns and all other interventions have been exhausted.
Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
Starting salary range - $15.
